If you read the “About Lauren” section of this blog, you already know that I am a Mary Kay Sales Director. I have been selling Mary Kay products for almost 9 years, through all stages of life: unmarried and in school finishing my Master’s degree, married, through covid, and now as a mom! The beauty of the business is the flexibility it allows women to have to live the life they want while still making a great income- that’s honestly my favorite part. Being about to work my business in the pockets of my day when my kids are sleeping, or playing with their dad, I can hop on my phone and make a few posts, reach out to customers and answer skincare questions, and make a few sales in a matter of 30 minutes (now hear me out- this is not true for brand new beauty consultants. It does take time and effort to build a customer base that orders regularly, giving you a residual income)!
Mary Kay Ash built this business in 1963 as a way to empower women, help them to earn a great living while still being able to be present for their families, and to make women feel important! The cash is a great incentive: Active Beauty Consultants make 50% profit on sales, get a 50% discount when active, and can earn additional bonuses through team building, the car program, and so much more. But let’s talk about the other fun incentives!
The DIAMONDS- I mean seriously, what other company rewards you in thousands of dollars in diamonds and jewelry just for working your business- selling the product and sharing the business opportunity?! It’s WILD! I have never in my life been given the princess treatment just for doing my job- but it’s truly endless in Mary Kay. The company LOVES to make us feel special and jumps through hoops to give us the best experiences!
Including traveling!
Because of Mary Kay, I have been able to travel more than ever before! It’s so fun being able to go to difference cities (or even countries if you earn the incentives!) every year to attend conferences and truly experience adventures of a lifetime!
The friendships are unmatched!
Why I really fell in love with the company… the community. It’s unlike anything else! Some of my best friends have come from being apart of this company- we get to travel together, we talk regularly and it’s the most uplifting conversations, we challenge each other, support each other, and are there for each other no matter what!
The first conference I attended, I was blown away by the positivity, the inclusivity, and the empowerment of all these different women from all different walks of life who come together for one greater purpose- to enrich lives. It’s truly amazing!
Now I will say, I used to have so much social anxiety- and sometimes it does still creep through… but this business has helped me grow and come out of shell sooo incredibly much. Never in a million years did I think I would be walking across a giant stage in front of thousands of people, collecting gifts and prizes, like what in the world?!
So hear me when I say, you don’t have to be a certain “type” of person to be successful in Mary Kay. Truly anyone can do this business if you are willing to do the work and make the connections with people. This is a relationship-based company: it’s all about People and Love, not Profit and Loss.
The first time I heard that, I really didn’t understand what it meant… and I’ll be honest, you won’t until you give Mary Kay a try for yourself.
